The Sweetest Thing

Mint Chocolate Chunk Necklace, (c) 2008 Sweet TarragonThis is not a new piece, but it’s a story that deserves telling…

Last July, I came into an inheritance: a box of jewelry my grandfather had been keeping for me since my grandmother’s passing 15 years ago. It contained 20 or 30 different necklaces and earring sets, many of which were unfortunately deteriorating. I set it aside with plans to take pictures of what remained for a scrapbook that I could someday share with my kid sister.

Earlier this year, with my beading frenzy in full bloom, I rediscovered the box and realized that I could apply my new-found love of jewelry-making with many of those precious memories to make pieces that are wearable and carry a significant amount of meaning.

Mint Chocolate Chunk is the first in that series, and a faded brown acrylic necklace has been transformed into an agate, jasper, sterling silver, and turquoise delight.
